How are you LIVING?

I cannot wait for the release of my website mentalimagefitness.com to go live so that I can share with you all the success stories of the many lives M.I. Team is changing!! :)

In just the last two weeks I have been faced with a lot of challenges, choices, and feelings of empowerment and failure. I know what my dream is, and I have been defining it daily for the last 4-5years.

Recently, I am sad to say I have let some people nearly break me, discourage me, and bring to the point of nearly walking away from my dream to become "normal" in their eyes. I perceived their normal to be getting a full-time job and wearing clothing that isn't workout attire.

Telling me that what I do on a daily basis is just too hard, or too much for one person, or it’s not worth it, or that's ridiculous, or you work too much, or you’re not smart enough, or what happens when you want to have a family, whatever their opinion on what I am doing is/was so on and so forth. I nearly let them change my mind and almost let them redefine my dream.

But with the help of people who do believe in me, I have renewed my self-confidence. (Even the strong & BOLD need a shoulder to cry on and I have shed many tears through the years)

I was recently provided with a gift of a very inspiring trip where I met a lot of amazing individuals.  We all had one crazy thing in common, we all want to change lives in one way or another. I surrounded by like-minded individuals who were almost all entrepreneur's and fitness nuts, and there I was able to really discover myself even further. The trip was very empowering and I was able to bring that empowerment into many different aspects of my life in a short amount of time strengthening friendships, relationships, and DREAMS!

Being an entrepreneur takes guts, it takes a work ethic unlike any average person. It takes multiple failures and public embarrassments, it takes belief and passion, it takes love and support, and ultimately it takes a DREAM! I am fortunate enough that my dream is small enough to share with others who relate to it and live it, yet big enough to change the world, even if it is one life at a time!

I encourage you all to believe in your dream and no matter how many disappointments big or small, persevere!  I believe there are big things out there for each and every one of us- don’t be afraid to find it and fight for it!

As long as I am influencing lives- even if it’s one at a time in a positive way, I am changing the world! :)

Stay on TRACK while TRAVELING!

Recently, I have a lot of clients going on vacations and road trips! They are all wondering how they can maintain their new healthy lifestyles while on a vacation, so I decided to write a little cheat sheet of tips! These are some of the things I do when getting ready to go on a trip, hope it helps you all stay on track! :)

How to TRAVEL FIT while staying on YOUR PLAN!

Guidelines by Nina Anderson, CPT

·         Call your hotel and request a fridge & microwave! Also ask what equipment, if any, the gym has.

·         If where you are staying doesn’t have a gym, look some up on the way there! Or go for outdoor a run, sometimes that’s the best way to experience a new town!

·         Prepare all your meats, portion them out and freeze them into baggies! J

·         Portion into baggies your dry foods (such as oatmeal/cream of rice/rice cakes/Ezekiel bread/etc.)

·         Bring extra baggies/utensils/measuring cups/food scale/water bottle

·         Pack your oils (flax seed &EVOO, etc.) in travel shampoo bottles!

·         When you get to your destination, go to a grocery store and stock up on your fruits and veggies!

·         Pack extra Protein Powder!

·         Hard boil your eggs but do not freeze them!

·         Put all your freezer food into a dry ice pack, and put it into your checked bad or just check it! Bring all other food into your regular cooler, and you can carry that onto the plane! Just make sure any liquids are within guidelines, or better yet, just pack those into your freezer pack!

·         If you have a small skillet or George foreman grill, bring it! That way you can buy your food all there, and prep it in your hotel room!

·         Pack all of you supplements or portion them out in baggies by times/days!

·         Instead of packing eggs or hard boiled eggs>>make Protein Pancakes! They freeze great!!!

·         If you’re on the road, gas stations almost always have a microwave you can use! Sometimes a warm meal is just what you may need!

·         MOST OF ALL HAVE FUN ~ staying prepared is KEY, and it can be done ANYWHERE!!! J

A day in the fit life

Recently I have been asked, "Nina, I want to know what you do every day?" This question got me excited!

The fact that individuals appreciate my strive for success from afar is amazing to me, and deep down all I really want to do is inspire people to change their lives. Getting questions all the time either from friends, family, associates, clients, etc. shows me that I must be on the right track. :) I really hope all I do through my daily battles (Yes, it is a DAILY battle!) will inspire at least 1 person/day to strive in their own daily challenges.

Day in the Life of ME:

On average I am a very busy person, and I am sure some of you have seen or heard that saying, “Someone who is busier than you is running right now!” I always FIT it in during the week, no matter what!!!

My life is very structured, because without structure I would fail.
  • This is probably why a lot of people do fail, because they don’t feel they need to develop a plan or base. Think of it this way; Your body is like a full-time job and you need to be holding yourself accountable, have rewards and punishments when you do or do not succeed at your own deadlines!

(I do this for myself, and recently just began a new tracking system for my progress, allowing different rewards for my continued success! I will share my progress on this once I get at least 4 perfect weeks!)

My usual daily schedule: Monday - Friday

5:15am Wake-up GET to the GYM! I get my cardio over with right away in the am, before I have time to dread it all day. Cardio is a constant challenge for me, not sure if I will ever love it, but I have to do it!

7am- Breakfast

7am-9am: work from home, answering emails, developing plans, networking, etc.

9:30- Eat again!

10am- Workout Round 2

12pm- Eat!

12-8pm- Work I also consume about 4 more meals during these hours

8pm- Occasionally Rd 3 at the gym (this varies with contest preps)

9:30pm: Last meal, and Bed time.

Somewhere between all those times I find time to spend with my wonderful fiancé, usually we do am cardio together and watch a show or a movie at night with our last meals. It’s important that we make  lots of time for each other on a personal level to keep our relationship strong. Since we are PIC’s (partners in crime). Sometimes business can carry over into our personal lives, and we do not allow that to happen.

Weekend Schedule: Saturday

5:15am Wake-up: Am Cardio *No Excuses!

7:30am Meal 1

9-5pm (schedule may vary) Work & Consume meals 2-4

6:30pm Meal 5

7-10pm  Consume Meals 6&7 and usually attend whatever events we have going on that weekend.

                                    Sunday

5:15am Wake-up *OFF DAY!  I do not work out or work on Sundays (usually) this is God's day of rest! I use it to rest my mind and prep for the upcoming week! Sundays are my favorite day of the week!

6-10am Eat meals 1 & 2 clean the house and make my grocery list

10:30am-12pm Church

12pm- Meal 3 & Grocery Shopping

2pm-6pm (give or take) Meal Prep. I cook all my food for the entire week, portion it, and separate it out by days. This saves me so much time during the week and I have no excuses to fail or stray from my diet! Prep for Success! Also consume meals 4 & 5

6:30pm-10pm Relax with my fiancé! & consume meals 6 & 7

*This is a general outline of my daily schedule. Of course it changes due to appointments, clients, work schedules, competitions, and life events, but on average this is my STRUCTURE. Without this well developed plan, I would not get nearly as much accomplished as I do.

To do this: Develop your GOALS first and foremost, and then create your Plan of execution! Together they will develop your future!

Always live FIT!

Clean Living

It surprises me at just how many people are oblivious to what Clean Eating is, so I must write about it from my point of view and how I live clean.

When I think about living Clean, a few things instantly come to mind, body image(clean hair, clothes, etc), a clean home, clean and healthy food, a clean body(inside and out), and a clean mind(meaning no lieing or deceit).
To live by these Clean rules, takes discipline, yet the rewards exceed anything imaginable. Of course my place is not always clean- especially living with two men, who tend to make our apt look like we have 5 little kids or something, but I do my best to keep up with a clean household. A clean body and mind is something I encourage everyone to work on DAILY, yes, I mean showering, and wearing clean clothing -- You'd be surprised at how many people don't! and yes they STINK! Gross....
A clean mind is something everyone should work on every minute of every day! This creates you. You can either choose to be positive or choose to be negative. Choose to be mindful of others, or neglect them. Choose to embrace spirtualility or ignore it. It is all a choice, and its 110% up to you. Please choose mindfully, every choice has its consequence, whether that consequence is positive or negative you may not know, yet if you work towards never lieing and always using proper judgment and putting others ahead of yourself, your results will not go in regret.

Now lets get to the Hot Topic of Clean Eating. Most people think clean eating is eating healthy, or eating "clean, washed food". But what is eating healthy??? I have heard comments from clients before whom think that getting a Hamburger was Healthy, when they went out to eat. Or that a salad from a local restaurant was considered "clean" in their minds ( this includes dressing - this specific client thought a cesar salad was clean). Or that eating clean means you can only eat things that taste like cardboard! This is just the beginning to something of the crazy things I hear from clients and patrons, and the sad part is this is not their fault!!! Yes, it is their fault for not educating themselves on healthy eating and taking care of themselves, but I blame society and the media for warping minds on what is and what isn't healthy!!
With all these crazy fad diets, food commercials, TV shows, ads and restaurant claims I get it. Americans are confused. Growing up in Wisconsin, everything is revolved around food, and mostly dairy products. As a child, milk was forced at every meal (which is a big reason to why I wont go near it now), every party, dinner, or get together was tailored around a FEAST. Portion control was never in place in our household, never taught to me in school, never brought up at physician visits, and I am not sure why... Perhaps it was because as a child I was very high strung and always playing or running around, so naturally I was tiny, even though I ate, and I ate a lot! Then getting into high school, healthy options at the café in school were crappy prepared salads, and there was no way I was taking that over pizza or nachos! Yet, I think if I were educated about the effects of what we eat and how it reacts with the cells in our bodies at a younger age, then perhaps these decisions would have been made earlier on in my life. I am sure most of you have the same or similar experiences growing up, or maybe even still struggle with what a portion size is supposed to be, or how many calories you should consume, or the proper amount of macros you need to consume to attain your goal weight. For me, this was all a self taught lesson, I enjoy learning about food, how food works with our bodies, what food can do for us besides just be a form of energy. Did you know there are proven results that FOOD, yes FOOD can prevent and cure cancer. Now pair exercise with a proper diet, and think about how much better your quality of life could be. Think about Flu/cold season, how often do you get sick? What if I told you at max, you may only get a cold/flu maybe 1x/year, and it really only takes you about 1 day of rest to recover before your back to being 100%. What about increased energy??? After about 8hrs of sleep a day you still have 16hrs a day to be productive! Are you productive 16hrs worth each day?? Are you utilizing your time on this earth to its full potential?? You don't get a second chance at that, so why not live it to its potential? and all you have to do is eat right and exercise (at min. 30min/day). So what is so wrong with our society and they way we eat? Why aren't people more eager to learn about their bodies and how to take care of it? It is because of technology? Are we just lazy? What is it?
Sometime I honestly want to go up to bigger people and Shake them and ask them WHY are you killing yourself? Because honestly, that is what they are doing. Americans are Eating themselves to death, literally. Its disgusting how OKAY this is. Yet, cutting, anorexia, alcoholism, drug abuse and etc. get more attention as a self destructive behaviors. Over eating is just as bad people. I understand struggling with additions, and you can be addicted to FOOD. You will need help, and it will not be easy, yet I promise getting past this will only provide you with a better and longer future.
Please, if you want to learn more contact me or do some research!! Help can be all around you!! :)

Lucky '13 - A New Year & New Goals!

Hey Everyone!!! Cheers to 2013!! Hope ya'll had an amazing holiday season with your family and friends! Celebrating the holidays for us this year was great! We truly enjoyed being around family and friends! Now 2013 is here, and I am ready to ROCK!!

I know I talk about goal setting a lot, but I truly believe in it~ Its the only way to get from where you are, to where you want to be.
My goals for 2013 are as follows:

  • Develop plans for our business.
  • Compete at least 3x this year
  • Place top 5 in each competition
  • Do at least 2 fitness photo shoots
  • Build a bigger clientele base
  • Help others reach their goals
  • Create a Brand
  • Get certified as a nutritionist
  • Get at least B's in school
  • Make 45k
  • Be more POSITIVE to myself and others :)
  • Inspire others
Every year, I create new goals for myself, and I hang them up somewhere that I can see them EVERYDAY! Its a nice reminder to know what I am working so hard to achieve, when I have them there to remind me every morning. Last year, I completed 4 out of 6 of my goals! Sometimes you cant always get what you want, or life may take you in a whole new direction! What's nice is to reflect on what you have accomplished, and where you are going! Don't dwell on what you didn't do- that wont get you anywhere but into a downward spiral of self pity. No one wants to be around people who are always whining- so get over it- and decide the next steps to where you want to be!!

Constantly work on being a BETTER YOU! You are the only person who can change your attitude! Instead of wallowing in a bed of tears, pick yourself up and Every morning tell yourself your beautiful, or say something good about yourself every morning! This is something I will defiantly be working on this year, I am consistently looking at how to improve or what I am unhappy with... I know I need to just look into the mirror sometimes and just say, "Damn, I am sexy!" no matter if I feel like I am or not. The point is to indulge in MYSELF! Too often I feel unworthy, or not good enough- and for NO GOOD REASON! This is why I am sharing this with you all, because I need to work on being a confident woman. I want everyone else to do this too- work on truly loving yourself. Work on truly appreciating yourself. Work on becoming kinder and more positive to yourself! This will not be an easy challenge, humans by nature are negative. It will take a lot of discipline and energy to be positive all the time! When someone says something bad about something or something else, I challenge you to turn that conversation into a positive one! :) Together, we can all be happier, kinder, sexier people in 2013!! :)

So, there are my goals for 2013, its one of the longest lists I have ever made for myself in 1 year, but I am confident in all of my goals for this year! :)

I have my first competition set; I will be competing in the 2013, NPC Grand Prix Natural, in Rockford, IL on May 18th! That puts me at currently 19weeks out! I have a lot of work to do, but I cannot wait to see how much I have improved from last July's show:) This year is all about improving, and although I am in it to win it, as long as I have improved - I am satisfied!

So CHEERS to a Lucky '13 type of YEAR~!!

LETS ROCK IT!

XO- Nina
